GROUTING AN EASY, FAIRLY AVERAGE,
WELL BEHAVED HOLE

AT REFUSAL

Plot to refusal

Recommended practice is to hold the pressure on the hole for 15 minutes, approximately, after refusal. This keeps the grout firmly in place in the cracks while thixotropic stiffening commences. The effect of this is to stiffen the grout against unwanted removal by groundwater or by water from nearby grouting operations.

SUMMARY OF THE APPLICATION:
Cement injected = 8.22 bags
Average take     = 8.22/20 ft = 0.41 bags/ft [ 0.41 litres/cm]
Time taken        = 3 hours
Water:cement ratio = 2:1 unless 1:1 is chosen
Pressure           = 25 psi [2 bar]

The imaginary application of grout to the pretend hole is now finished. Note, however, that on actual jobs several applications of grout may be necessary. The Guide, and other sections of these programmes, suggest when this is required.
